An 11-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl have been revealed as the two people found dead in a suspected double murder in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday.

The shocking deaths came after police visited a home in the West Midlands town following an earlier stabbing at a car wash.

At the home, they arrested a woman, 49, in connection with the stabbing.

However, they also found two people unresponsive with serious injuries. They died at the scene despite the desperate attempts of paramedics.

Now, police have confirmed the two dead bodies belonged to two young children. Their names have not been released.

The arrested woman was further arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

She is believed to be known to the children – though no further details have been released on her identity.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannan said: ‘Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the children. I cannot imagine the pain and shock they are feeling.

‘We also understand the concern felt locally around this incident and the speculation around what has happened.

‘We can now confirm that the two people who lost their lives are an 11-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl.

‘Our priority was to inform the family before confirming the ages of the children. They are currently being supported by specially trained officers.
